Fandom Resources

This isn't meant to be comprehensive so much as a list of things I personally use to make my fandom life easier, and how I use them. Never finished, ever growing and changing.

Obsidian - a fully offline (unless you want to upload your vault) multipurpose note taking app

I'm an insufferable shill for Obsidian, it's my main fandom hub and library, and where I keep all of my offline files as well as copies of everything I post online. I use it for note taking, bookmarking, gif storage, and archiving, and haven't run into a thing yet that I tried to do and couldn't eventually make it do. Plus, Obsidian is incredibly customizable and the fact that it's basically just a markdown file viewer means all your files are very transferrable and could even be made into a website!

Recommended add-ons:
Dataview - I used this to build my fic archive database
Kanban Board - I use this for tracking fic progress
RSS Reader - imperfect thus far, but it makes it very easy to archive Tumblr posts and other things straight into your vault

Notion - an online note taking and productivity app

I like Notion for indexing owned media and tracking the things I watch, and essentially building visual spreadsheets. I use it for a lot of other things too, like moodboards and bookmarking, but one thing to be aware of is that their TOS is pretty strict about NSFW so I wouldn't really recommend it for say, a ficrec list or database, or storing NSFW content, otherwise you'll put yourself at risk of account deletion.

Recommended add-ons:
Save To Notion (Firefox or Chrome) - this browser extension is better for web clipping than Notion's official one

Allusion - a fully offline image organization app

I use this for organizing fannish images, like photos or art. You just point it at a folder on your computer and you can tag and organize all the photos inside! It supports nested tags as well, which is a huge plus.

Notepad ++ - A souped up version of Notepad

I've never found a program I like coding in more than Notepad ++. It's lightweight and does everything that I want it to do, and has lots features and plugins available if you're willing to do some digging.
